The yeast, barley and water based drinks have always been among the most popular drinks. But since the days of ancient Egypt, beer has undergone many changes both in its preservation as its quality.
As liquor (between 3 and 13%), beer is subject to the current standards of the food industry. The drink now consists of the basic ingredients of beer, but also other not really conducive to health substances …
Moreover, some ads boast the properties of the ingredients for some beers to sell more. They omit to mention that it contains additives that manufacturers use because of their low cost. Here is the list of noxious substances that beer manufacturers use illegally:
Monosodium glutamate (MSG):
It enhances flavor and has long been used in the food industry. The products containing it are marked with the E621 symbol. It is dangerous for cells, brain, and promotes the development of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s deseases. Monosodium glutamate is responsible for headaches, arrhythmia, hyperactivity and rash.
Glycol propylene:
This is a chemical compound inexpensive to produce. It is colorless, viscous, hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). This product is harmful to the cells of the heart, kidneys and other internal organs. This additive can cause contact dermatitis and liver abnormalities. It can also inhibit the growth of skin cells, damages cell membranes, causes rash, dries skin and causes its damage.
Propylene glycol is added to the beer to give it its sparkling. Its symbol is E900-E910, it can be found in soft drinks, sweets, pastries, cereals, cosmetics … It is used in many products as a substitute for sugar.
EDTA or ethylene diamine tetra-acetate calcium disodium:
This is an antioxidant which serves to control acidity. Its symbol is E385. This additive may affect metabolism, cause skin allergies and affect the development of reproduction.
Caramel color:
There are four derivatives for that color and studies have shown that this substance is harmful. The caramel color stimulates the development of molecules that can cause cancer. Many experiments on animals have shown that this additive can cause lung cancer, leukemia and thyroid dysfunction.
Other colors:
Red food coloring 40 and Yellow 5 and 6 are the most common additives. They are expected to be prohibited because of diseases induced in laboratory animals. Some of these additives may even cause cancer. Yet they are still used in food production.
Insects to give color:
Industrial agrifood use insects to provide color to their products. Starbucks and Danone use them to color the coffee, yogurt and various drinks, which shocked many consumers. This additive can cause many allergies or anaphylaxis that can be life-threatening.
Glyceryl monostearate:
This product is known as GMS. This organic molecule is used as an emulsifier. It is a simulator of oil, wax and a solvent. This product is used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics and hair care products. It is toxic to many organs and banned in many countries. Research has been done on animals. They have shown that some elements of the glycerides family could block their growth, increase the size of their liver and their kidneys, reduce the size of male reproductive organs and cause uterine disorders. In humans, this additive can sometimes cause stomach discomfort.
